Growing up as a child I was a very hands on kid. Always messing around with building things, taking things apart. I had a tree house that was 20 feet up in 9 different trees that was 500 square feet. That should say enough, I loved building things and everyone new it. Why was this? Well when I was a young child my father and I were always in the work shop building or fixing something. I became such a hands on type of person and quickly became very very good at it.

I'll never forget our first project together as a father son team. He said, Anthony do you want to build a mini motorcycle? Mini Motorcycles immediately became very interesting to me and I saw heck yea dad that would be fantastic! Later that day we bought a 50cc engine from a yard sale for cheap. Now of days is a piece of cake though. I check craigslist or ebay every now and then and find nice used engines and parts that could very well be used in a nice project.

So my father and I began our project that week and it was so much fun. I was so intrigued by everything. We found all of the parts to build the bike through yard sales and junk yards, it was just so cool. We pretty much paid 50 bucks to build a very nice sleek mini motorcycle that ran perfect, and looked brand spanking new. I was in charge of the sanding and painting. So when my father was getting the engine running, and fixing other things, I was sanding down this old rusty frame we found at the junk yard. Thing looked like crap at first! After a solid sanding job and some half descent paint, thing looked like we had just bought it. Hey, as they say, there's nothing like a good paint job!

I feel every father now of days has so many resources to find all these supplies. My son and I plan around 5 projects a year. We go on craigslist, ebay, and the traditional yard sale and junk yards. Together we have made a mini chopper, a 50cc moped, a go cart, and 2 very nice 50cc scooters that we made out of a weed wacker engine. Next time you and your son are hanging out, trying to spend some quality time together, just ask him what he would think about building something along those lines with him. It's fun, easy, and a good time with you and your son.
